GWOT Support

Naval Hospital Guam personnel support extends beyond the shoreline of the island. In 2008, 51 Active Duty staff from Naval Hospital Guam deployed in support of the Global War on Terror (GWOT) with the Expeditionary Medical Facility in Kuwait, the Hospital Ship USNS MERCY and a variety of Individual Augmentee duties in Iraq, Afghanistan, Cuba, Africa and aboard ships.

Community Relations

For more than 100 years Navy Medicine has held a special responsibility on Guam. From 1899 when Surgeon Philip Leach first sought an appropriate site for a Naval Hospital and dispensary in Agana, to the current facility, and into the future with a new facility. Navy Medicine continues the proud traditions of providing healthcare and sound relations with the populace of Guam.

As an island partner, Naval Hospital Guam supports the local community in many ways. Staff members contribute thousands of community service hours on projects such as school clean-up, work with Guam Animals in Need and countless other organizations. Recently, the Naval Hospital received top honors in the 2008 Navy Environmental Stewardship Flagship Award for large, shore-based commands. Most notable, is the nursing mentorship that is provided for seniors of the University of Guam nursing program.
