Patient Eligibility

Active duty service members, drilling Reservists, and enrolled dependent beneficiaries who have TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Plus.

No referrals needed to make an appointment with optometry.

Services Offered

Routine Eye Exams

Available to active duty service members, retirees, and eligible dependents.

Eyeglasses

We provide glasses to active duty service members and retirees only. Dependents will be issued a copy of their eyeglass prescription to purchase glasses from a civilian business.

Contact Lens Services

Contact lens prescriptions require annual renewal. Current contact lens wearers may have their prescriptions renewed at either the Naval Hospital or Branch Medical Eye Clinics. A patient must schedule an appointment and bring their contact lenses and their prescription information to the exam for renewal. The necessary contact lens prescription information may be obtained from any of the following:
  • Contact lens prescription
  • Contact lens boxes
  • Contact lens blister packs
Unfortunately, we are not able to perform new contact lens fittings. Patients interested in becoming contact lens wearers should seek contact lens fitting by a civilian.

We do not fit patients with colored, cosmetic contact lenses.

Once issued a contact lens prescription, patients are required to purchase their contact lenses through a civilian concern (see exceptions below).

Specialty, medically-necessary contact lenses are available at government expense on a case-by-case review basis. Additionally, contact lenses at government expense are available to active duty service members serving in specific operational capacities.

PRK/LASIK Consultation

Available to active duty service members only.

PRK/LASIK is not performed by the military on Guam. Most patients will be referred to Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii for refractive surgery. Patients going TAD/TDY to San Diego may be referred to Naval Medical Center San Diego for surgery. Patients are responsible for paying for airfare, lodging, and all other expenses incurred to have refractive surgery performed at a military refractive surgery center.
